R&A 'Women in Golf' Charter

Edgbaston Golf Club is committed to the Women in Golf charter and

has a strong ladies golf membership

The R&A launched the Women in Golf Charter in May 2018, supported by England Golf and other organisations from across the industry.

The Charter is designed to:

  • Get more women and girls playing golf and joining clubs
  • Inspire more families to enjoy golf as a leisure activity
  • Encourage more opportunities for women to work in golf

If the Charter achieves its aims there will be substantial economic benefits for golf. But success will depend on a real shift in culture.

In order to create an opportunity for more black women to experience golf, supported by the Caribbean Golf Society EGC member Julia Regis hosted a series of 'taster' sessions which have had great success not just at Edgbaston but across the Midlands recieving local and national media coverage.

The programme seeks to introduce individuals to golf who haven't had the experience of golf before and break down some of the perceptions of golf.

Running these taster sessions has increased the participation specifically for women of colour in the sport and changed some of the perceptions around golf as a sport.

This initiative highlights the need for an inclusive and diverse membership to any club and with this programme we hope to improve the diversity and inclusivity at Edgbaston Golf Club.
